Thunderpas Cacoa and Creme

I’ve had two spayed female American Eskimos during my life and wanted another one in 2024. My web search brought me to Patrea Pabst’s Thunderpas American Eskimo and German Spitz facebook page and we connected.  She told me about the Eskies heath issues due to inbreeding and why she was now breeding Large German Spitz.  I was lucky, her bitch, Chili, was expecting and delivered a few weeks later.

The first Fawn Sable Parti-Color Giantspitz male in US

He is a “first generation” American bred, born on June 21, 2024, his call name: Patches.
His sire, Guus V. Millus, is white and was imported from the Netherlands as a puppy.
His dam, Chili Zimni Sen, is black and was imported from the Czech Republic as a puppy.
Patrea Pabst was expecting solid white and solid black puppies from this breeding.
She was totally surprised when a parti colored puppy appeared and the other 3 where all white.

I fell in love with Patches from his pictures and was able to bring not only Patches, but his sister Cayenne home with me. Patrea sold Patches to me and we co-own Cayenne together. I pay for all of her expenses, DNA & OFA testing, vet bills and showing fees and Patrea pays for all the breeding expenses and owns Cayenne’s first litter of puppies. Once the first litter is weaned, I become Cayenne’s sole owner.

Patrea has been my dog show mentor and now a good friend.  I’d shown horses as a teenager, but never shown a dog.  This past year has been a fast-paced learning experience in dog showing conformation and performance events.  We’ve traveled as far as 500 miles (805 kilometers) one way to dog show clusters.

The dogs are now 16 months old.
Patches is 19 inches tall (48.2 cm) and weighs 45 pounds (20.45 kg).
Cayenne is 15.5 inches tall (39.37 cm) and weighs 25.4 pounds (11.5 kg).
Patches may be bigger than Cayenne and can push her around, but when he makes her mad, she puts him in his place.

Patches earned his Conformation Certificate of Merit in August 2025 at the age of 13 months and 3 weeks old.  Cayenne has earned 8 of her required 15 points for the CM so far.  She should earn her CM sometime next year.

These dogs are athletes

I bought an adult electric trike and a Bike Tow Leash with coupler to attach the dogs to the Trike.  Every morning, weather permitting, we road work 3.5 miles (5.6 km) at a trot.  This slows them down for a short period of time, then they are ready to go to the dog park and run.

Patches and Cayenne are seasoned travelers and love to ride in the car.

Dock Diving with Patches

This past spring we found that Patches loves to swim when he jumped off a dock at Lake Hartwell. In the US we have a competition called Dock Diving, where the dog runs down the dock, a person throws a lure out into the water and the dog jumps into the water to retrieve the lure and return to the dock. Dogs are judged on how far they jump into the pool and earn Dock Diving titles. Patches started dock diving classes and will continue them next year.  I’m hoping he will go to his first Dock Diving competition sometime next summer.

Cayenne and Patches will earn their first „Fast Cat“ titles in November

Patches and Cayenne attended their first Fast Cat event in September and will attend another one in November. Fast Cat is a timed 100-yard dash (91.44 meters), where the dog chases a plastic lure. The dogs earn points towards the AKC fast cat Titles. There is a holder who releases the dog, and a caller that catches the dog after the run. Dogs earn points for how fast they run.

Dog Shows

Our next dog show cluster will be the AKC National Puppy Sweepstakes and AKC National Dog show in Ocala, Florida the weekend of Dec 12th thru 14th.  Patches will show in the AKC National Puppy Sweepstakes in the 15 – 18 month class.  He will be 17 months and 2.5 weeks old on the date of the show. Both he and Cayenne will show in the AKC National Dog show on Sunday, Dec 14th.

The demand for Giantspitz in US is increasing

In the US German Spitz is considered a rare breed and we have found the demand for puppies is greater than what we can supply.  The German Spitz Club of America is following the FCI standards in all things but the color of the large spitz.  We voted to allow the large Black & White, Brown & White and Sable Parti colors to be shown in conformation. Our breeding stock population is small, several of our young bitches turn 2 next year and will be bred with frozen semen from Europe. Our current breeding bitches have used frozen semen from Europe as well to keep our COI’s low.  Patrea Pabst is the only active Large Spitz breeder in the US.  We have one Klein spitz breeder in Florida and quite a few Mittle spitz breeders throughout the US.
